How To Wash Your Down Pillow or Duvet
At BOKSER HOME we want you to love your bedding for as long as possible! That's why we recommend a few simple steps for washing your down pillows and down duvet to ensure they remain in like-new condition for years Here’s our step-by-step guide to make sure you get the most out of your bedding:
What You Need:
• Mild liquid detergent
• Washing machine (preferably front-loading)
• Dryer with wool dryer balls or clean tennis balls (optional)
Steps:
1. Pre-Treatment: If there are any stains, pre-treat them with a small amount of detergent and gently rub with a soft cloth or sponge.
2. Machine Wash:
• Use a large-capacity front-loading washing machine if possible, as top-loading machines with agitators can be too rough.
• Wash two pillows or one duvet at a time to keep the machine from being too full.
• Use a small amount of mild liquid detergent. Avoid using too much detergent as it can be hard to rinse out and may leave residue.
• Set the machine to a gentle cycle with cool water.
3. Drying:
• Place the pillows or duvet in a dryer with wool dryer balls or clean tennis balls to help fluff the down and prevent clumping. (optional)
• Use a low heat setting. High heat can damage the down and fabric.
• It can take a couple cycles to completely dry firm-filled pillows and duvets. Periodically check for dryness by hand.
4. Final Check: Ensure the items are completely dry before using them again. Any remaining moisture can lead to mildew or mold.
Tips:
• Air Out: After washing and drying, let them air out for a day or two to ensure they are completely dry and to help remove any remaining moisture.
• Sun Dry: To help fluff your duvet to be as lofty as it can be, set in a sunny part of your room, this will help it dry out and fluff up nicely.
How often should I wash my down or feather down pillows and duvets?
- We recommend pillows and duvets that see nightly use be washed every 3-6 months.
